Problem
A computer hardware distributor needed to move a large Magento catalog into Shopify without losing the way customers configured refurbished servers. The project had to account for product structure, component choices, quote behavior, payment requirements, inventory visibility, and SEO-sensitive URL changes.
Solution approach
The migration was treated as both a website rebuild and an operational workflow project. The catalog needed to be easier to manage after launch, and the configure-to-order experience needed to remain understandable for customers and staff.
What changed
- Reorganized a 20,000+ SKU catalog for the Shopify environment.
- Mapped product data, categories, redirects, and storefront structure.
- Rebuilt the configure-to-order server workflow around component choices and live configuration summaries.
- Preserved ordering, quote, payment, inventory, and launch requirements.
- Reduced dependence on developers for routine storefront updates.
Operational value
The result was a more maintainable ecommerce system that supported daily staff work, made routine updates easier, and kept a specialized sales workflow intact during a major platform change.
